Days at the beach

Good morning, friends--
Today was another lovely day in paradise. Blue skies, pale white clouds, bright sun, and the restless, soothing surf. My friend, Christina Dodd, dropped by to say aloha, and we spent the day sitting in our beach chairs, talking.
What's better than a day at the beach with a friend? We talked about all the usual things--our kids, our careers, our crazy everyday lives. And we laughed. That's one of the best things about friendship; no matter how often you actually see each other, you can dive right back into the deep end. Pick right back up where you left off. By the time Jill Marie Landis showed up, we were in girlfriend heaven. I'm sure you could hear us talking all the way down the beach to the state park. We called another writer-friend, Teresa Medeiros, who swore that we called not to say hi, but rather to gloat. :)
And then there's the reading. One of the best things about my vacation time in paradise, is the time I have to read. So far I've read Stephanie Meyer's "The Host" (I know, I know, I got an early peek at an ARC), Alice Hoffman's "The Third Angel," Stephen King's "Duma Key," Christina's "Touch of Darkness," and Jill's "The Homecoming," which will be available in a few months. Next on the pile is Harlan Coben's "Hold Tight." Am I a lucky girl, or what?
Supposedly we're going "zip-lining" on Monday. I'm not entirely sure what it is or how one does it, but I'll let you know how it goes. Picture a bunch of crazy women hanging from strings, flying above the trees. We MUST be mad...
Jill just called and invited us down for drinks on the beach and a barbeque, so I guess I'm off to the store for my part of the pot luck.
I'm sending you all good thoughts, and hope that the weather whereever you are is kind. It's been terrible in my hometown lately, and I swear it's not my fault because I came to the sun.

And LOST is back on!! So it's impossible not to smile...

You are living in heaven, Kristin! I've been dreaming of going zip lining, so be sure to tell us all about it.
Yay, Lost! :-)
hello Kristin,
I am now living my life vicariously through you since I am not physically able to be there to soak up the sun. I just want to thank you for the kind note you send thanking me for entering into the best friend contest. The autographed book of the Magic Hour was an unexpected surprise. Thank you for such great reading.
Oh I am so excited you are going ziplining! One of our excurisions on the cruise coming up is to go ziplining and I have never been so tell me how much fun you had! I just know it will be adventurous and I love adventure! Give me the longest rollercoaster ride and I am happy! Your time in Hawaii with your girlfriends so nice and inviting...almost like you are reading a good book about friends. I can just picture some ladies gabbing away in beach chairs looking out at the ocean laughing and sharing great stories.
I am in sunny California so it is hard not to love the weather here...guess that is why I love California so much.
Well I hope you enjoyed your potluck and hope you are having a great time which it sounds like you are!
How many books do you read at one time or do you read one after the other? Do you have to finish a book before you start another?
Hey Kristin..
I know that I am late.. :) I hope that things are going great in your corner of the world!
Mine is going a bit better than the last blog that I wrote. Thank God!
I think that I have gotten through all of your previous books now. I am about to finish Comfort and Joy.
It is the shortest book of yours that I have listened to, but it is just as thought provoking.
Ooops, I still have to get my hands on Home Again. I suppose that I will have to actually read that one, cause I cannot find an audiobook of it.
Sooo, I asked before if you stay in Hawaii for short vacations or do you live there for most of the year? Of course, I am just being curious..
Don't worry about the Pampered Chef thing. I wasn't sure that you would be able to do it due to privacy issues. If anyone reading your blog would like to help the cause for May, please write me at the email address of:
[email protected]
I would love to be able to reach my goal of 30 pink breast cancer support items by the end of May.
Oh, if you could get Lisa Kleypas to get her own blog, that would be awesome. I am currently waiting on Blue-Eyed Devil to get here..I read Sugar Daddy and totally loved it.. so I would like to get to know her if she is up to blogging..
Have a great weekend, Kristin! I hope that you write sooner rather than making your avid fans wait for 2 whole weeks for a blog entry.. :) Please?
Linda
Hi Kristin - I just discovered your books, actually one book, Magic Hour, and couldn't put it down. I went out and got two more by you! As a writer (of Romantic ecosuspense) myself, I love your in depth characterizations and your lack of cliches in your writing. You've got a long-term fan -
Lynn Romaine

Hi there! My sister and her husband were stationed in HI late 90's to 2002.
I just bought Teresa's book, Charming the Prince, it's funny you mentioned her. Hope you had a fantastic time.
Does anyone watch So you think you can dance? Premier is 5/22 and I can't wait!
I have Sugar Daddy and Blue Eyed Devil on my wish list, as well as about 100 more!
Have a great week, Cindy
Ah, Hawaii. So lucky to be there. My hubby is taking me next year to celebrate graduating nursing school!
So, it's a dreary, rainy Monday in Southeast Houston, and I've taken the day off of housework and studying to finish Firefly Lane. I started Friday night and now I've got 6 pages to go, and I DON'T WANT IT TO END!!! : ) Kristen, you outdid yourself with this novel! Thank you for it. Oh the memeories it has brought back. My BFF in Ohio should be getting the copy I ordered for her later this week.
In reading the previous blogs, I noticed that everyone is thinking what just popped in my head an hour ago, Firefly Lane the movie!!! Yes!! I know sometimes novels turned movies can be really cheesy, but this must be recreated. Any thoughts on an actress for Marah?
Enjoy the vacay and I can't wait till next year for the newest book. After the 6 pages are up, I have completed all of your novels.
Hello Kristin!
It has been awhile since we heard from you.. :) I hope things are going well in Paradise!
I watched American Idol on DVR this morning, and I bet that Jason is the one that hits the road tonight.
For the first time in forever, I 100% agree with Randy and Simon when they critiqued Jason's performances. What was he thinking? Bob Marley and/or Bob Dylan? Simon told him to pack his suitcase.. and I betcha he is spot on with that advice.
I am liking Syeshia more and more. She is really coming into her own! David Cook is doing quite well.. but David Archeletta is SO cute.. :) He can really sing his patootey off too! Now, I think that the top 2 will be Syeshia and David Archeletta. I say that because David Cook will not have any trouble getting a contract after AI, and I really will be surprised if he makes it into the top 2. He really does not need the help that AI can give him, but the other two do.
Last year, Melissa Dolittle was in the same position, and she was voted off in the top 3. She will come out with an album in the future I am sure.
David Cook could go out and get a contract with no trouble within a few weeks of leaving AI.
It will be really neat to see another 17-year-old win AI like Jordan Sparks did last year. But, I really like Syeshia too. I just hope that if she does win, she will continue to do the kind of music that she has been doing lately.. Lots of personality showing through, ya know?
Okay, so who are you pulling for? I know that David A has been a favorite of yours since the beginning, do you still pull as strongly for him? What is it about him that really tugs at your heart? I am curious!
I hope that you write this weekend! Two weeks is way too long, ya know?? ;) Have a great week, Kristin! Please write soon!
Linda
Dear Kelli and Pricers--
Well, I'm sure you won't be surprised to find out that we did not go ziplining. We really wanted to, but the truth was, that we girls were having so much fun sitting on the beach, gabbing and laughing (exactly as you pictured) that we couldn't find the energy necessary to haul out butts away from the ocean and into the car. so you'll have to tell ME what it's like after your cruise.
As to how many books I read at once; the answer is that it depends on how good the book is. A really great book is a rare gift that I covet and savor. Nothing comes between me and my read. A not so good book...hmmm...well I can read a few of those at a time. And then there are research books. Like right now, I'm trying to put together an idea for my next book; that means I'm reading nonfiction voraciously, trying to put together the people, places, events, and issues that will consume me for the next year. How about you? Do you guys read one book at a time or double up?
aloha,
Kristin
Dear Cloesnana--
No, thanks to you for entering the contest and sharing your story. It was a real pleasure to read it.
thanks,
Kristin
Dear Lynn---
Thanks so much!! I'm intrigued by your work, too. Tell me a little bit about the kind of books you write.
aloha,
Kristin
Dear cindy--
I'll pass along your great comments to Teresa and Lisa! They will be thrilled to hear it! They are both fabulous writers.
I'm glad you're enjoying all of it.
aloha,
kristin
Dear Amy--
congratulations on finishing nursing school! What a fabulous accomplishment. I'm so glad to hear that you liked Firefly. I hope I got the medical stuff right. :)
Where are you going in Hawaii?
aloha,
k
Dear Linda---
I know, I know, I've been having so much fun that I haven't been blogging enough. :) You caught me! With Christina Dodd and Jill Marie Landis over here, we've just been gabbing and laughing like you can't imagine. :)
Funny you'd mention American Idol. I just watched it ten minutes ago! I am such a fan of David Archuleta and secondarily, David Cook. I HAVE to believe it will come down to the two of them.
And Kristi better win DWTS!
aloha,
Kristin
