Wonderful Waikiki

Aloha everyone!
I'm in Honolulu this weekend for the Hawaii Writer's conference. Geez, I haven't been on Waikiki beach in longer than I can remember. I can't wait to walk through the International Marketplace and have a pina colada at some swanky poolside bar. But even more than all of that, I love meeting aspiring writers and talking to them about their dreams. To be honest, they totally inspire me. As we were talking about on the blog in the past few weeks, its a powerful thing to follow a dream---especially one that as impossible to believe in as becoming a published author. But these people have all followed that dream to this little Hawaiian island, and it is just magical to be in their presence. It really reminds me of when I started (can it really be twenty years ago this month that I sold my first novel?????).
So, I'm off to meet some of the other writers who are here. Jackie Mitchard (whose wonderful new book I've already mentioned), Ann Hood (whose work I absolutely adore), Mitch Albom, Diablo Cody, Patricia Wood, Karin Slaughter, just to name a few. When I know more, I'll certainly pass it along. Wish me luck for a good hair weekend. :)
For now, though, I hope you all have a fabulous Labor Day weekend. Enjoy the last moments before school starts and life gets back to normal.

Enjoy your conference, and soak up the Hawaiian goodness. Your home away from home! =)

Carolyn--lucky, lucky you! I'm sure I speak for other Fireflies when I say I'm jealous! I hope you had a fantastic time at the conference and will post again soon and tell us everything!!
I was lucky enough to get to read Kristin's keynote address. It was...incredible. I cried and smiled and was reminded how important it is to hold tight to our dreams.

Kristin, any chance you may share highlights (bullets) of your talk with the rest of us. I know I would enjoy hearing your thoughts? Hope you had a wonderful time in Honolulu!!
Also meant to tell you I finished "True Colors" some time ago and I couldn't put it down. Didn't expect the twist with Winona and Luke at the end, but like being caught off guard. There was a stronger male presence in this book -- not just sisters. Reminded me of "When Lightening Strikes." Liked how you developed Noah's character as he discovered his own strengths in trying to exonerate his dad. The entire book was a great read!
Only have two books left "Comfort and Joy" and "Magic Hour" -- then I will have caught up.

Oh, Patricia, Magic Hour is one of my favorites! It's rough to catch up though and then have to wait for new releases or maybe you're not as impatient as I.
Just wanted to announce that the husband took a new job today. I think he's very relieved to only go 2 weeks between jobs. In this economy, that's a good thing. He had many opportunities, but he was lucky that he was offered the job he actually wanted. He'll be a press secretary (again) for a senator. He'd been off the Hill for a little over a year. There are benefits and disadvantages to going back there, but I think he'll be happy.

Glad your husband got the job he really wanted. Didn't realize he worked media. Once upon a time ago, I did press work for the Senate for a number of years. He must be good at what he does. Good for him. I'm sure you'll have lots to share with all that's going on in D.C.

That'll work, Patricia. If you read Magic Hour next, you can have Comfort and Joy to read around the holidays perhaps. It's more magical at that time.
Husband was a Press Secretary for a senator and then went to the private sector. This is his return, but it was nice to hear all his contacts and previous office helped him secure this position.
