Miracles do happen: I updated the website!!

Hey everyone--
Well, I have to say, now I know why it takes me so long to "revamp" the website. It takes a remarkable amount of time and energy to figure out what I have to say and how to say and to put pictures along with it. And you all know that I'm a low energy gal. :) I have to throw out a big thank you to Kim for her amazing help with this project. As with so many of my best intentions, without Kim, they would probably never come to fruition.
So first of all, here's the link, just to make it easier for you. (And to show off that I really have learned how to include a link on the website). http://www.kristinhannah.com/content/index.php
There's a bunch of new information--and a lot of it is especially fun for those of us who populate the blog. I've added a lot of new photographs--especially of the many book clubs I've spoken to this year, so check them out.
Also, I've kicked off a new contest that should be a lot of fun. It's the "Look who's reading Kristin Hannah" contest. I can't wait to see the photographs come in.
As you all know, Winter Garden is coming up, and I have two precious galleys to give away. All I need is a cool contest idea. Any thoughts?
So poke around the site and tell me what you think. I'll be looking forward to your comments!
Aloha,
Kristin

You could do a photo contest much like Susan Mallery just did on Facebook. Susan Elizabeth Phillips has a similar feature on her blog. Readers send in or post a photo to Facebook a photo of where they read your books (them and a book). You could have an email address (even a temporary free one) to which to send photos, too, if Facebook is too tricky. It's funny to see how creative the SEPPIES got. I took a photo of First Lady in front of the White House.
If I think of any others, I'll come back. Will you update the site again with Winter Garden? That seems like a lot of change in a short period of time!
I really like the site! It's very easy to navigate, and contains lots of info that everyone loves to keep up on. I still want a "Pro-Flies" page with little bios of the Fireflies (smile).
I'm feeling out of sorts with you guys because I'm not on Facebook. I'm not doing it. I simply refuse. HA!
All is ok in my world, considering I'm turning 40 next week. I've got a lot on my plate right now, and that seems to be the least of my worries, which is a good thing. I have an old soul, so 40 sounds very young to me!
I can't wait to submit a photo for the contest. What a great idea! Fun, fun!
The only thing on the site that isn't there, and I liked, was the tag line beneath the photos. It was fun to "hear" you describe the pictures in writing. Unless it's a flickr thing and I'm not getting it, there aren't any words.
Oh, and apparently someone missed keying in DALLAS - FT. WORTH area in the cities you'll be visiting. =)
That's all I've got for now. You all have a super weekend!
Lisa
Ha. Obviously, I didn't read far enough down on the main site to see the current contest. Contests are great, but I'm so used to losing them that I rarely actually enter anymore. Maybe I'll give this one a shot.
Maybe do a writing contest of best winter memories?
Lisa, I don't think 40 is old especially not the closer and closer I inch towards it. :) I've been on a kick lately where I've been carded and thought of as extremely young (which makes me wonder if no one can see the creases at the eyes and mouth). That helps me gear up to 35 next summer. But seriously, I'll admit to looking young but not looking like I'm a teenager. People need glasses.
Um, totally hijacking this entry. Lisa, if you click on the "i" in the photostream, there are captions.
Also, I submitted my contest entry! :) I'm still used to losing, but why not. I had some free time tonight.
Thoughts on your contest. April, I really like your idea about best winter memories. It would demonstrate our storytelling abilities.
I thought of an idea, that also includes Kristin's charity. And it could be in addition to other contest ideas.
In promoting your new book, entice your fans to donate to your charity. Donors who give for example more than $50 -- or what ever amount you'd decide -- would be entered to win a random chance to have their name/s (one or two people) used for a character in your next book. If posted on your website and on on your Facebook, the chance to see their name in print I truly believe would generate a lot of interest and help your charity at the same time.
I know you are well into you r 2011book, so it may be an idea for your next book.
Now after making the suggestion, I know I haven't been able to donate, because my computer won't allow me to enter Athena Partners -- have asked my neighbor if I could try on her computer.
I really love your new website. It is easy to navigate and very attractive. The photograph ideas are great! I loved viewing them.
Blessings,
Pat
Isn't the new site fantastic? I love the changes/additions.
I so LOVE Winter Garden, I'm tempted to enter the galley contest!! :) I can't wait for the Fireflies to read this book so we can start chatting amongst ourselves about all its wonderfulness.
Lisa, I believe it was Oprah who said you really don't start living until you're 40. Or something like that. My bff of 30 plus years also tells people she has an old soul. As to Facebook--I totally get why you don't want to join. I was exactly the same way. But then my daughter set me up an account and I have to say--I really enjoy it. I've reconnected with friends from school, lots of family members that are scattered around the world.
April--What a great idea of taking a pic of First Lady in front of the White House!!
Patricia--what great contest ideas!!!
Lisa, the captions are still under the photos. I think April described how to find them.
And, as always, Kristin is way too generous with her praise. She did so much work redoing the site. My contribution was with the book club photos. I had a blast!! Has anyone else used Flickr? What a cool photo site. So fun, so easy!!!
Halfway through November. I can't believe it!!
Kim
I use Flickr. I don't use a lot of the features yet, but I like it. I think the photo mosaic site I use is powered by Flickr.
FYI, Fireflies, the song by Owl City was #1 on the VH1 Countdown last week and this week (though I only watched this week).
Kim, can't believe we're halfway through November. I bought a turkey for a work pot luck this week. My sister and I are toting the kids to the photo studio to get Christmas photos taken in about an hour. Time is flying!
I'm actually going to enjoy December because I don't plan on buying any books. So, I'll be all set until January and February which are traditionally heavy months.
Have a good week, Fireflies!
Thank you all for the Flickr tips. Duh, I didn't try hard enough =)
I LOVE the idea of a winter memory writing contest!
April and Lisa---
Jeez, so much to say. First of all, April, thanks for hijacking the scoop to give Lisa all the news. I have to admit that Flikr was tough for me to follow, too. Honestly, I'm not so crazy about the captions in front of the photos, but the upside is that now I can upload my own photos, so I can add them more easily.
Also, Lisa, I so get you on Facebook. All I can say is hold firm, girlfriend! The blog is a lot more personal. I feel like we really get to know each other here, and that's awesome.
And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of a winter memories contest. It's especially cool at this time of year because it can tie into Christmas and Hannukah (did I spell that correctly?) I KNEW I'd get a killer idea from you ladies. You totally rock! Okay, I will announce it at the end of the week. So you guys can get the first scoop. Let's go for a 250 word limit (excluding fireflies, of course, who can write as much as they want) and in Jan, I'll post my favorites.
Thanks !!!
Patricia--
thanks so much for you idea about the charity. Of course, I LOVE the idea. Unfortunately, I don't think its right to limit winners to people who donated. As much as I love and encourage donations, I totally understand that times are tough and people have their own charities. One thing I know for sure is that the fireflies are generous with both their time, their money, and their emotions. But keep thinking, because I love the way your mind works. And be sure and enter your own winter memory. :)
Kristin,
I am very happy with your selection of April's "winter memories" for your contest as it seems perfect for your new novel. I loved her idea immediately! I just added to the contest ideas -- and I am someone who thinks outside the box and I like group think tanks. I understand your concerns.
Will enter a memory and perhaps a photo if I can get someone to take one.
Patricia
